The Spectre of State Capitalism

The Spectre of State Capitalism In-Person

Panmure House invites our students to join us for an insightful discussion with co-authors Adam Dixon and Ilias Alami, to explore the resurgence of state capitalism and its implications for the global economy and world politics.

Since the turn of the twenty-first century, state-owned enterprises, sovereign funds, and policy banks have vastly expanded their control over assets and markets. Governments worldwide have adopted increasingly assertive state intervention strategies, from techno-industrial policies to economic nationalism. We are currently witnessing a historic shift in the trajectories of state intervention, characterised by a drastic reconfiguration of the state's role as promoter, supervisor, shareholder-investor, and direct owner of capital across the world economy. This has fundamental implications for the nature and operations of global capitalism and world politics.

Professor Adam Dixon, the Adam Smith Chair at Panmure House, will be joined by his co-author Dr Ilias Alami to discuss their new book The Spectre of State Capitalism, along with interventions from Dr Victoria Barbary, Jeremy Grant, and Stephen Boyd.

Limited seats are available, so be sure to secure your spot in advance.
