The Viva Voce Examination: A workshop for PGR students in the Social Sciences WEBINAR Online

Led by Prof Stephen Gibson, this workshop will explore policy and process around the viva voce examination used as the final assessment point for PGR programmes. Focussing on the social sciences, the session will provide an overview of the core HWU expectations, share tips for good practice and preparation, and will consider strategies for dealing with corrections. The session will be useful for PGR students in the social sciences at all stages of study, and especially those who are nearing completion.

Aims

  • Understand Viva Voce Examination: To explore the policy and process surrounding the viva voce examination as the final assessment point for PGR programmes.
  • Enhance Preparation Skills: To provide PGR students with tips and strategies for effective preparation for their viva voce examination.
  • Promote Good Practice: To share best practices for conducting and participating in viva voce examinations within the social sciences.
  • Support Completion: To assist PGR students, particularly those nearing completion, in understanding and navigating the final stages of their doctoral programmes.

Registration is required. There are 42 seats available.

Cancellations

All cancellations need to be made on LibCal, no later than 48hrs before each session starts. This will allow a person on the waiting list to attend.

Non-attendance

If you frequently cancel with short notice (less than 48 hours) or fail to show-up, this will be considered as non-attendance. If you miss 5 sessions in the same academic year, we will reach out to you to check in on your wellbeing and notify that you will not be able to book any further places until the end of academic year, unless a valid reason is given. Existing bookings will also be cancelled.
