Accessible teaching resources (Powerpoint) Online

2.30-4pm UK | 5.30 - 7 pm Dubai | 9.30 - 11 pm Malaysia

Making course presentations / slides accessible by design is essential to engaging and supporting all students. Some students are unwilling to disclose their disabilities (or may not even be aware they have one), and all students can benefit from accessible slides whether they have a disability or not. There are quick and easy actions you can take to ensure that your slides are accessible by design and that they support students to engage with their learning and fosters their sense of belonging to the Heriot-Watt community.

As Teaching Teams want to provide accessible teaching, but have limited time, this online workshop will show you how you can quickly and easily update your Powerpoint presentations / slides to enhance their accessibility and improve their usefulness as a learning resource for students. It will cover:

• Layouts

• Lists

• Fonts & Colour

• Images, embedded media and ALT text

• Animation

• Accessibility checking

This is a practical workshop so you will develop skills and knowledge to enhance your own presentations, as well as having the opportunity to discuss why and how taking a ‘universal design’ approach to your presentations can enhance your teaching.

Workshop participants will get access to the University teaching presentations template – a HW branded slide deck which has accessibility built-in.

*This session will be held on MS Teams. If you have any accessibility requirements to support your participation in the session please let us know in advance.
